The nonprofit organization Artadia has partnered with the Marciano Art Foundation, the Los Angeles contemporary art museum that opened in June 2017, to create the Marciano Artadia Award, which will grant $25,000 to a Los Angeles–based artist annually. The application period for the inaugural prize, to be presented in March, will begin on February 1.
For the two-tier jury process, jurors will select six finalists and then conduct studio visits in order to choose the three 2019 Los Angeles Artadia awardees, each of whom will receive an unrestricted $10,000 grant. One will also be named the winner of the Marciano Artadia Award, Maurice and Paul Marciano Art Foundation and will be given an additional $15,000 in prize money.
“We are so excited to be partnering with Artadia through the new, annual Marciano Artadia Award, offering an unrestricted grant to emerging Los Angeles–based artists,” said Olivia Marciano, artistic director of the Marciano Art Foundation and a board member at Artadia. “It has always been essential to keep the LA art community at the center of everything we do at the foundation and, through this grant, we hope to offer a critical opportunity to help artists develop and grow.”
